[edit] Gerald and Karen DeGroot
While studying at the University of Michigan, two doctoral candidates, Gerald and Karen DeGroot, became heavily influenced by the works of B.F. Skinner and founded the DHARMA Initiative in 1970. The two then set out to create a large scale communal research compound where scientists and free thinkers would be able to pursue scientific pursuits. With the financial support of Danish Industrialist Alvar Hanso, the pair were able to make their vision come to fruition.
