A ship crashes on the island, stranding a small group of people along with a young pregnant woman, Claudia. (Across the Sea) She is met by a woman who leads her to her home, where Claudia goes into labour. With the help of the unknown woman, Claudia gives birth to twin sons. The eldest is named "Jacob", the youngest remains unnamed as it was unexpected. The unknown woman then kills Claudia. The actual script reads 44 A.D.

Both nations decided to find a solution. The result was the Valenzetti Equation. Commissioned under the highest secrecy, through the U.N. Security Council. The equation is the brain child of the Italian mathematician Enzo Valenzetti. It predicts the exact number of years and months before humanity extinguishes itself. (The Lost Experience)

3 years after Sawyer, Juliet, Jin and Miles began living with the DHARMA Initiative as members, Jack, Kate, Hurley and Sayid arrive on the island after being sent back in time from 2008, they are quickly helped by Sawyer, and pose as new members of the Initiative. (Namaste)

Mikhail Bakunin, a soldier of the Soviet Army, spends time in Afghanistan during the Soviet occupation which began in December 1979 and ended February 1989 with Soviet withdrawal. (Enter 77)

Sam Toomey uses the Numbers to guess the number of beans in a jar at a fair in order to win $50,000. While driving home, he and his wife, Martha, are hit by a pick-up truck, and Martha loses her leg. James Ford takes up the name "Sawyer" and becomes a con-man in order to pay of a $6000 debt he had. (Confidence Man)

Danielle Rousseau and her Science Team shipwreck onto the island. The team soon becomes infected with "the sickness" and Danielle murders them. Danielle changes the transmission of the numbers to her distress signal. Danielle gives birth to her daughter Alex, only to have her kidnapped one week later by "The Others" (Solitary / Numbers / Exodus - Part 1)

Theresa, the nanny for the Carlyle family, dies after taking a bad step, falling down the stairs, and breaking her neck. (Deus Ex Machina)

Desmond and Ruth begin dating. (Catch-22)

Kate Austen and Tom Brennan bury the time capsule in Iowa. (Born to Run)


1990-1999
  • 1991

Sayid fights for the Republican Guard during the Gulf War. Sayid is captured and recruited by US Army Sergeant Sam Austen and asked to translate for Tariq. Sayid is coerced by Inman into torturing Tariq for the location of a missing US Pilot. (One of Them)

Sabrina Carlyle and Adam Rutherford get married, and Boone and Shannon become step-siblings. (Hearts and Minds)

Emily Locke is admitted to the Santa Rosa Mental Health Institute for schizophrenia. (Deus Ex Machina)

Locke joins the farming commune which was a front for marihuana growth. Edward Colburn, who was later discovered to be a police officer, graduated from the academy in this year as well. (Further Instructions)

Desmond and Ruth plan to wed, however, a week beforehand, Desmond gets drunk and is found by Brother Campbell, and joins the monastery as a monk. Desmond is eventually "fired" and then meets Penny Widmore who is at the monastery to pick up wine. (Catch-22)

Michael Dawson is hit by a car after speaking with Susan on the phone. Susan visits Michael in the hospital after not having heard from him in two months. Susan in forms him she's marrying Brian Porter, moving to Rome, and that Brian will be adopting Walt. Michael files an injunction on Susan in the attempts of preventing her from leaving the country with Walt. After Susan pleads with him to consider what is best for Walt, Michael lets him go. Desmond requests Charles Widmore's permission for Penny's hand in marriage, but is denied while applying for a job with The Widmore Corporation. (Flashes Before Your Eyes)

Sayid allows Nadia to escape her execution, killing Omar in the process. Sayid flees Iraq. (Solitary)


  • April 4th, 1999

Desmond completes his sentence in military prison, and is dishonourably discharged. After exiting the building, Charles Widmore is waiting for him, and presents him with the letters that Desmond had written to Penny during his sentence, as well as a bribe to keep him away from Penny. (Live Together, Die Alone)


  • Late 1990s

Locke and Helen attend Anthony Cooper's funeral, only for Locke to find out that he is still alive. Helen breaks up with Locke after his proposal to her. (Lockdown)


2000-2003
  • 2000

Sam Toomey's bad luck becomes to much for him, and he commits suicide by use of a shotgun. (Numbers)

David, Libby's husband passes away due to unknown causes. (Live Together, Die Alone)

John Locke is approached by a man named Peter Talbot who informs Locke that Anthony Cooper is going to marry his mother. After Locke denies knowing Cooper, Peter is killed. When Locke confronts Cooper about the situation, John is pushed from the eight story window, and is paralyzed from the waist down. Locke is informed by the federal agents, that Cooper fled to Mexico. Sun-Hwa Paik marries Jin-Soo Kwon (The Hunting Party)


  • 2001

Desmond Hume arrives in Los Angeles, and meets Libby at a coffee shop. Desmond informs her of his race around the world, and Libby offers him her husband's boat in order to complete it. (Live Together, Die Alone)

Sarah and Adam Rutherford have an accident and Adam passes away. Jack performs surgery on Sarah, meets Desmond stadium and returns to see that Sarah has miraculously been healed. Shannon and Sabrina arrive at the hospital to hear the news about Adam. Boone and Shannon attend Adam's wake, and Boone accepts a job at his mother's company. Penny Widmore travels to Los Angeles, and tracks Desmond down at the stadium and confronts him. (Live Together, Die Alone)

Desmond's boat crashes into the reef on the island while attempting his solo race around the world. Desmond is brought down into the hatch by Kelvin. (Live Together, Die Alone)

Juliet helps her sister Rachel conceive a child. (Not in Portland)

Kate murders her biological father, Wayne Jansen, by blowing her house up while he was still inside. Kate visits her mother and presents her with insurance papers. Kate is turned in by her mother and arrested bu US Marshal Edward Mars. Kate escapes from the Marshal, and visits her father at his Army Base. (What Kate Did)

Sawyer cons Cassidy out of her $600,000 and conceives a child with her in the process. (The Long Con)

Megan Pace is born to Karen and Liam Pace. (Fire + Water)


  • September 5, 2001

Juliet arrives on the island. (One of Us)


  • 2002

Kate returns to Iowa to visit her mother who is dying of cancer. Kate and Tom dig up the time capsule. Tom is killed when he and Kate attempts to make their escape from the hospital. (Born to Run)

Kate meets Cassidy Phillips and the two evade Marshal Edward Mars in order for Kate to meet with her mother, Diane. (Left Behind)

Cassidy visits Sawyer in prison, and informs his that she had a child, which she named Clementine, and that he was the father. After being released from prison, Sawyer used the share of his reward and placed it in a trust fund for Clementine. (Every Man for Himself)

Sabine dies in surgery, after becoming voluntarily pregnant. Juliet requests Ben's permission to leave the island, Ben denies her wish, however, states that if she stays, Jacob will cure her sister's cancer, which had just returned. (One of Us)

Sayid is apprehended by the CIA and the ASIS to acquire information about a terrorist cell that his former university roommate Essam was a member of, that had stolen C-4 from an army base. In exchange, Sayid would be granted knowledge as to the whereabouts of Nadia. (The Greater Good)


September 2004

Susan Lloyd-Porter passes away from a blood disorder. Michael flies to Australia to pick up Walt. (Special)

Sun meets with a woman posing as an interior decorator in order to obtain documents that will make it possible for her to flee the country. (House of the Rising Sun)


  • Mid September

Christian hires Ana-Lucia to be his body guard. While in Australia, Christian visits the home of Lindsey Littleton, and attempts to visit his daughter, Claire Littleton. (Two for the Road)

Jack is asked by his mother to go to Australia to find his father. (White Rabbit)

Sawyer meets Christian Shephard in a bar in Sydney and the two of them have a drink together.(Outlaws)

Christian Shephard suffers from a myocardial infarction, and passes away. (White Rabbit)

John Locke is denied admission to the authentic walkabout tour with the Melbourne Walkabout Travel Agency due to the fact that he omitted the fact that he was paralyzed on his application. (Walkabout)

Sawyer is arrested for head-butting the Honorable Warren Truss, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry. (Exodus - Part 1)

Boone speaks with Malcolm at the Sydney Police Station in the attempts of getting someone to do something about Shannon's abusive boyfriend Bryan (Hearts and Minds)

Nikki and Paulo murder Howard L. Zukerman by poisoning his food in order to get their hands on the $8,000,000 worth of diamonds he has. (Exposé)


  • September 20, 2004

Karl develops X-Rays which determine that Ben has a fatal tumor on his spine. (One of Us)

Juliet and Goodwin have sex together, and Juliet is delivered Ben's X-Rays. She confronts Ben, and calls him a liar. When she requests Ben's permission to go home, Ben denies her request. (One of Us)

Kate attempts to flee Ray Mullen's farm in the middle of the night, but Ray convinces her to spend one extra night, and then drive her to the train station in the morning. (Tabula Rasa)


  • September 21, 2004

Ray and Kate encounter Edward Mars on the road, and Ray's truck flips as Kate attempts to take control of the wheel. After dragging Ray to safety, Kate is apprehended and arrested by Edward. (Tabula Rasa)

Claire attempts to sign the adoption papers to allow Arlene and Joseph Stewart to have custody after the child was born, however, when she is unable to sign the documents, she meets with Richard Malkin to hear his plan. He presents her with a ticket on Oceanic Flight 815, and states that she'll receive $6000 now, and another $6000 when she lands. (Raised By Another)

Essam Tazir commits suicide after discovering that Sayid set him up when he believed they were going to be martyrs on a suicide mission. Sayid is presented a ticket for a flight that same day, but requests one for the following so that he can properly bury his friend. (The Greater Good)

Charlie visits his brother, Liam and attempts to convince him into re-joining Drive Shaft, however, he denies the request. Charlie storms out, and later visits a bar where he meets a purported Drive Shaft fan named Lily. (The Moth / Exodus - Part 2)

Shannon arrives at Boone's hotel room drunk, and begins to passionately kiss him, which eventually leads to sexual intercourse. (Hearts and Minds)

Sawyer murders Frank Duckett believing him to be the original "Sawyer" who was responsible for the deaths of his parents.

Walt turns on the television in the hotel room at 5:23am, and states that he always watches the show. Michael requests that he turns down the volume, however, he refuses and turns the volume up. When Michael turns off the television, Walt runs with Vincent into the hallway and screams at Michael, prompting Steve to get up inquire and inquire if everything was alright. (Exodus - Part 1)

Sawyer is brought before Calderwood of the Sydney Police and is informed that he is being deported and is going to be on a flight that afternoon. (Exodus - Part 1)

Charlie awakens to prepare to leave for his flight, and gets in an argument with Lily about the remaining heroin. (Exodus - Part 2)

Hurley awakens to realize that he has slept in and frantically attempts to get to the airport in time for his flight, as he doesn't want to miss his mother's birthday. (Exodus - Part 2)

Jack argues with Chrissy at the Oceanic Airlines check-in about her refusal to allow him to bring his father's body on baord without the proper documentation. (White Rabbit)

Jin waits at the Oceanic check-in line and sees Jack arguing with Chrissy. Sun attempts to escape from the airport to the car waiting outside for her, however, she decides against it and joins Jin in line. (House of the Rising Sun)

While waiting in line, Ana-Lucia overhears Jack argue with Chrissy, and calls her mother, and decides to come home. Teresa states that she will be waiting at the airport for her daughter. (Two for the Road)

Eko receives his ticket from the check-in counter, and then runs into Charlotte Malkin who claims she has a message from Yemi that she received when she was "between places". Eko becomes enraged by this comment, and the heated argument is eventually intervened by Libby. (?)

Ana-Lucia joins Jack at the bar, and the two share a drink. Ana receives a call and has to leave, but the two agree to meet on the plane for a drink. (Exodus - Part 1)

Upset that Boone was unable to secure first-class seats, Shannon reports Sayid to an airport official claiming that he had left his back there. (Exodus - Part 1)

Michael makes a phone call to his mother asking if she would take custody of Walt, however, Michael was unaware that Walt was listening to the conversation. (Exodus - Part 2)

Rose drops her pills in the airport, and they are picked up by John Locke. (S.O.S.)

Paulo and Nikki read an article about the death of Howard L. Zukerman and the two bask in the glory of their success. They then make a promise to each other never to end up like Boone and Shannon after having an encounter with them. (Exposé)

Sun accidentally spills coffee on Jin and he heads for the bathroom. While on his way there, he passes Sayid who is being released from airport security custody. While in the bathroom, Jin encounters a man who claims to be working for Mr. Paik and warns him not to escape to America with Sun. (Exodus - Part 2)

Hurley, determined to make his flight on time, cuts in line at the security checkpoint, but in forced to head to the back of the line. Hurley is also forced to purchase a second ticket due to his weight. (Exodus - Part 2)

John Locke is informed that he is unable to board the plane because the special wheelchair that was used for loading the disabled passengers was missing. It was then that JD suggested that he and Michelle carry him on board. Locke becomes the first passenger to board Oceanic Flight 815. (Exodus - Part 2)

The gate for Oceanic Flight 815 is closed, but is re-opened to allow Hurley to board the plane. (Exodus - Part 2)

Oceanic Flight 815 departs from Sydney bound for Los Angeles. Six hours into the flight, radio contact is lost and the pilot turns around to head back to Fiji. (Exodus - Part 2 / Pilot - Part 1)

Desmond leaves the hatch and follows Kelvin to discover that Kelvin has been restoring his boat and is planning to leave the island. When Kelvin tells Desmond that he planned to leave and have Desmond push the button, Desmond became irate and pushed Kelvin to the ground. As the two fought, Desmond pushed Kelvin and killed him when his head made contact with the rock behind him. Desmond takes the key from around Kelvin's neck, races back to the hatch, only to discover that he missed pushing the button. As a "system failure" alarm rings throughout the station, and the magnet inside begins to react, Desmond frantically attempts to enter the code and push the button, once he's done so, everything returns to normal. Oceanic Flight 815 encounters turbulence caused by the Swan's electromagnetic system failure. Juliet's book club meeting is cut short suddenly, as her home abruptly begins to shake. After the ground settles, she and her guests head outside where they are witness to Oceanic Flight 815 split into three separate pieces and lands on three sectors of the South Pacific island.
