obsolete: Please delete this article ("Whispers"), because there is another one called "Wisper". It was a simple misspelling. Thanks.

Could someone digitalize that whispers and upload them on a site? (and share the links here of course? I think this is great material, but I have no mean (nor knowledge to "overlap" sound tracks). -- AlexD 80.25.30.18 11:17, 6 February 2006 (PST)

These read out like song lyrics... They rhyme and everything..

Would be great to have them as mp3... There is no Theory-Section in this yet - are there no theories? I mean according to the transcripts, the voices have a lot to say. They are too specific to be just random whispers in the minds of the people. It seems that the voices are "the others", but why do they hear them. Psychic abilities, Mind Voice Projection, hidden speakers on the island, invisibility cloaks, Sound-Fatamorganas, ... I don't know, but I guess there are many (more thoughtful) theories out there? --aurora glacialis 16:18, 26 February 2006 (PST)

i dont think mind projection is really that wild a theory anymore after 2x22 "three minutes" - Mikey 13:53, 18 May 2006 (PDT)

I don't think whoever's doing the whispering is part of The Others, they sound almost scared and very careful. "Maybe they can help us", no self-respecting Other would even think like that. The general Other-mentality towards the Survivors is patronizing at best. A wild theory would be that the whisperers are dead (maybe even the soul can't escape the island), that bit when Shannon died sounded like it could have been said by Boone. Ofcourse, this is just speculation. --skks 11:46, 7 March 2006 (PST)

how can a dead person/spirit hold a "scope", "Hide the scope", meaning either a scope on a rifle, a pair of binoculars, or a persicope (think to the mirror system in the swan - Mikey 13:53, 18 May 2006 (PDT)

Spoilers

=I think this is one of the few places that requires a spoiler warning.

It contains information you can't get by watching the show and to be fair.. i found it a bit more than i wanted to know at this stage.

--user:MRNasher

I disagree, the transcripts are still from the show. Everything else is just theory. --skks 02:15, 13 March 2006 (PST)

I agree they are transcripts but contain information that is not supposed to be readily available to the average viewer. I just think a text note at the top might warn a reader of that.

Maybe what i was reading was confirming too many of my suspicions and felt that it was 'proving' connections with things that are still totally unexplained within the show.

--user:MRNasher

I think it suffices that we got a big, fat warning on the front page. Besides, there's bigger spoilers here :-) --Jambalaya 07:14, 13 March 2006 (PST)

I agree - spoken words in the show are there to be figured out - theories are theories, but dialogue from the show (however quiet or hard to decipher) isn't really a spoiler. Call sheets, set reports, etc. are really more spoilers. --Bremerton 05:30, 27 April 2006 (PDT)

Fire and water

Hi all.

Is anyone working to transcript the whispers Charlie hears in Fire and Water? I'm gonna try but I'm not a natural English-speaker.

Thank you for the good job.

EDIT: didn't add my signature --Nonninz 10:15, 19 March 2006 (PST)

How interesting

"Maybe they can help us." Huh!

Just as S+K get to the waterfall in WTCMB, there's a sound that sounds suspiciously like "Help!" Has anyone tried to break that out or debunked it as a "whispher." Thanks! Jengod

Source

How or where did you get the transcript of the whispers? It might be worthwhile to mention if this was taken from a script, closed-captioning, guessed at, etc.--Bill37212 07:24, 7 April 2006 (PDT)

Yeah, that would be interesting cause even if i turn the sound up, I just understand single words... And why do you always mention that there is some german text in it? I am from germany but i didnt hear any german... --Soul Provider 07:08, 8 April 2006 (PDT)

Agree. I think the same thing when I read the article. How did you find what the whispers said? I'm assuming that someone altered them in some manner. It would be nice to post an explanation of the technique.

Theories

  • If the transcripts featured are true and accurate, they would seem to tie in with the notion that our islanders are in fact sharing a collective consciousness, and are probably all hooked up to monitors in a lab somewhere in a different status, and everything happening on the island is indeed a group hallucination, mirrored by the repeated statement of "Im in someone elses dream".
  • Anyone have any ideas who Dennis may be?
  • I would agree that some of the text spoken does seem relevant to and could be from Boone, while the words Dude and sucks seem to remind me of Hurley.
  • Is it possible that the fluctuations in pitch of the whispers are in fact the result of an electromagnetic phenomena known as the doppler effect. Discovered by Christian Doppler, it causes the observed frequency of any source (sound, radio, light, etc.) to differ from the radiated frequency of the source if there is motion that is increasing or decreasing the distance between the source and the observer. The effect is readily observable as variation in the pitch of sound between a moving source and a stationary observer, or vice-versa.
  • I think this is plausible. However, the start of your explanation is a bit misleading. The doppler effect is not an "electromagnetic phenomena". It is a shift in frequency of a sound wave due to the relative movement of the source or the observer. Electromagnetic waves are also affected in the same manner, but the effect is not exclusively an "electromagnetic phenomena".

Season 2 Final

What about the whispers of the Season 2 final episode, before the group gets captured? I think i heard something like "Elisabeth" but don't know if it's right... Anyone knows the full whisper? --Soul Provider 06:35, 26 May 2006 (PDT)

Yes, I just made it out, it's something like "Elisabeth, it's alright, wake up" and then it gets too noisy to make out anything. I am looking for the right place to add that but there seems to be no good wiki for the whispers. I suggest we clean up this one.
