Live Together, Die Alone[]

I just added this episode to Libby's flashback scenes, because if "Dave" deserves Libby-centric status then LT,DA definitely does.

  • No Live Together Die Alone's flashback FEATURES Libby. It is, however, shown from Desmond's point of view. (As opposed to Dave's final flashback featuring Hurley, shown from Libby's point of view) --LeoChris 01:38, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

The Other 48 Days[]

You know what I noticed, in the crash scene of TO48D, we don't see her coming out of the water right? Hmm.--Mistertrouble189 17:07, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

Libby was aware of to visit the staff(station explorers).--robert h

Nevermind, she was in the water, see [1]. --Mistertrouble189 20:51, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

1967 ?[]

Hello everyone. I'm writing this page on FR LOSTpédia but I saw something here I didn't know : Libby was born in 1967. Are you sure about this ? If so, in what episode, podcast or other do we know that ? Thanks a lot ! Fan de Lost 17:14, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

I checked over the Season 2 transcripts. Libby never mentions her age. Of course, it's possible there was shown on screen some document that revealed her age or date of birth, and it wasn't properly mentioned in the transcript.  Robert K S   tell me  19:11, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

So, maybe you have to find a proof, before writing an information on the page. Because I don't think this date is right... Fan de Lost 17:14, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

I was confused about this, too, I'm going to remove it --Integrated (User / Talk) 05:23, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

Centric[]

In the infobox, it says not to add The Other 48 Days as a centric episode for Libby, because it is a non-centric episode. Well, it is listed as a centric episode in the infoboxes for Ana Lucia, Eko, Bernard, and Goodwin, so why not here too? --Managerpants 10:57, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

  • I'm more confused as to why Dave is no longer listed as a centric in her template and on her page. I mean...why? Flashback=Centric, even if it's brief.--Golden Monkey 22:15, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
    • I don't believe that a 10-second flashback makes Dave a Libby-centric episode, when the entire episode clearly centered around Hurley. --Managerpants 10:30, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
      • In any case, she had a flashback in it, and it's the episode in which she has the most screentime and the largest role. So it is Libby "centric" by any of the standards we typically use. --Pyramidhead 08:23, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
        • I meant, of the episodes she was in, this one had her most important role. --Pyramidhead 10:32, 12 April 2009 (UTC)
        • But she didn't have the most screentime and the largest role... Hurley did. She maybe had more screentime than she's had before (though it's doubtful, what with The Other 48 Days), but that doesn't make the episode Libby-centric. Nor does, once again, a 10-second flashback of her drooling. --Managerpants 10:30, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
          • Though I agree that Dave should be listed on her infobox, I also think that we should add "Greatest Hits" to Karl and possibly Alex's navbar as they had a flashback in that episode.--Orhan94 11:09, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
            • I think we're getting a little carried away with what constitutes a centric episode. Yes, Greatest Hits had a brief Karl flashback, and yes, Dave had an even briefer Libby flashback, but those episodes can't be called Karl- or Libby-centric because they weren't the focus of the episode. That's what "centric" means. --Managerpants 11:47, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
              • Whether or not they are centrics, I believe these episodes should be listed in the infoboxes somewhere, (Flashback : (Episode) ?) possibly along Juliet's A Tale of Two Cities. --LeoChris 18:07, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
  • This is getting ridiculous. Here's what defines a "centric" (I hate that term, by the way) episode as I've understood it: A "centric" episode for a character, for the first four seasons, is one in which the viewer is directly shown events, either before or after the ongoing story, that give an insight into that character's background and motivations. The length of a character's flashback should not be an issue at all - Walt's flashback in Exodus was probably only twice as long as this one, yet it's still a "centric" for him. And just because there was only one Libby flashback per se in this episode, there's no denying we learned more about her from those thirty seconds than we had from any of her previous screentime. There is no reason at all why "Dave" should be considered not a "Libby" episode. --Pyramidhead 10:31, 12 April 2009 (UTC)
    • No reason? How about the rest of the episode being about Hurley? If there can be a group centric episode, why can't there be a couple centric episode?

Damon & Carlton Comments[]

Does this belong in the article? I think it does, given the unanswered questions will always be so: BE: Will we ever find out why Libby was in the mental institution and if she knew Hurley pre-island?

CC: No, we feel like we resolved Libby’s fate, and for the fans that are still obsessing about Libby, maybe at some point someone will write sort of a “Star Wars”-like novel about the story of Libby, but we don’t consider that to be a major story thread for us. Source?[]

"The producers have stated that they would like to reveal more of Libby's back story, but the actress who plays her is unable or unwilling to comply." listed in trivia. I'd love to know the source for this?--Integrated (User / Talk) 05:24, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

  • Here you go, haven't watched the video myself, so be careful, it could contain spoilers (but I doubt it) --LeoChris 15:49, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
  • Yeah i watched it and does say what LC said it does and it talks about what Ekos story was supposed to be. -- B1G CZYGS  Talk  Contribs  23:24, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

Desmond/Institution[]

Which came first? In the newest interview revealing why Libby was in the institution, they say she was there BEFORE she got out and gave her boat to Desmond. Here is a link to something they said awhile back about going from point A to point B, Desmond to the mental institution: http://www.spoilerfix.com/lost.php. Thoughts? Alexisfan07 4 July 2009

The new interview timeline makes sense. This gives her character arc a cohesion more in line with how other character arcs have been resolved on the show. Eko finds his faith, then dies. Michael redeems himself, then dies. Shannon discovers someone trusts her, then dies. Boone declares independence from Shannon, then dies. In this case, Libby's struggle was with love. David died and she was in "a dark place" according to Darlton. As soon as she learned how to love again (with Hurley), her struggle with that particular personal demon was over. And then she died promptly after that. It fits. Sure it would be nice to know how she was in Australia. We can imagine it was another character connection, like she was working for Widmore or something like that, but it was still probably on that character arc - that she was learning how to love again. She resolved that with Hurley and THAT is why Darlton considers the matter closed - the arc was resolved.Johnnyd1980 21:45, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

On Libby's page it says her husband died one month before he could go sailing. Yet her excact words are that he died one month before her meeting with Desmond. So this should mean she was less then a month in the mental institution? --Boumie 22:59, January 13, 2010 (UTC)

Rename[]

4x08 Libby ID badge
  • This rename to Libby Smith is very hastely done, without discussion on the appropiate (this) page. What's the source, is it valid, is it canon and shouldn't it be Elizabeth "Libby" Smith to be consequent? --LOST-Hunter61 07:02, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

maybe her last name was revealed in the memorial video at comic-con, like karl's last name was revealed. just a guess, however. --Joshtopher27 07:21, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

  • And where is that video to be found? --LOST-Hunter61 08:04, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
See here. I think this should be taken as the true name, but I concur it should really be "Elizabeth "Libby" Smith" - which as a matter of fact is how she is credited at the Lost panel!! --Nickb123 (Talk) 13:50, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
Agree with adding the last name, but as for saying "Elizabeth "Libby" Smith", I don't know that that's necessary. It's not like we have articles named "Katherine "Kate" Austen" or "Johnathan "John" Locke".  Jimbo the Tubby  talk  contributions  02:03, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
Revealed at Comic Con, all other Comic Con material has been considered canon. The video was quite upsetting really...--Integrated (User / Talk) 15:31, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
Funny, I thought we resolved this past year that Comic Con material was not canon, especially in light of last year's video bit that didn't pan out, and the subsequent Darlton admission that (paraphrasing here) "Comic Con material is for the fans, don't hold us to it".  Robert K S   tell me  05:09, 8 August 2009 (UTC)
Shouldn't it be renamed to "Libby Smith"? Libby is a nickname for Elizabeth, just as Kate is a nickname for Katherine or John is a nickname for Jonathan. -- LostCloverfield42  Talk  02:01, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
We've gone both ways on this (see Hugo "Hurley" Reyes and James "Sawyer" Ford). In this case, since she was really never known as Elizabeth on the show, Libby Smith might be more appropriate. (But even the "Smith" seems dubious as being non-canon. Being such a common/generic name, it seems more like something they made up just for a hastily-produced spoof video. And Darlton have explicitly said that Comic Con material can't be held as canon.  Robert K S   tell me  22:55, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
Last year's video with Chang was originally going to a canon, but it just didn't work out so they just called it non-canon.--Joshtopher27 02:37, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

Libby and jacob has something what's the same by them. They appeared both in other peoples flashbacks. Libby appeared in Eko, Desmond and Hurley. Jacob appeared in Hurley, Jack, Sawyer, Kate, Locke, Sayid & Ilana.--Station7 13:36, September 22, 2009 (UTC)

Character appearances[]

The infobox says she hasn't appeared in any season (or Missing Pieces), yet we know she was in Seasons 2 and 4. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to update said template, since it appears to run on other pages or something.--Tim Thomason 04:23, February 10, 2010 (UTC)

Furthermore, this seems to effect some other characters, like Dogen and even Hurley, suggesting that some of Season 6 has not been updated in the templates yet. There should be an easier way to do this, or I'm missing something.--Tim Thomason 05:24, February 10, 2010 (UTC)

Picture discussion[]

Even more so that Ana Lucia, whose pic we just fixed, this article's picture doesn't portray its subject. It's a promotional pic and a fabulous photo of Cynthia Watros, but that's not Libby. Though she's a master of disguise, Libby at no time and in no universe looked a thing like that.

Any suggestions for a new photo? Maybe something from this scene? --- Balk Of Fametalk 23:42, May 10, 2010 (UTC)

Neutral The thing is BalkOfFame, the ABC promotional department has put out 4-5 "profile" pictures for each main character every season. And all of the lostpedia profiles for the past and present main characters (except Walt) use the latest promo "profile" pic for that character as the main image. I certainly see no problem with mixing it up a bit, but it seems to be an established practice around here, so I'm thinking that you will get little support on this. Also, while I'm indifferent about whether the image gets changed, I have to say that the unofficial practice that I just mentioned makes some sense in that, without it, it would really become a free-for-all with people endlessly wanting to change main characters' profile pictures. —   lion of dharma    talk    email   23:57, May 10, 2010 (UTC)

  • I think we should by all means use those promotional pictures except for those rare cases when they clearly don't portray the character. There've been only two of those cases - Ana-Lucia and Libby. If they releases a photo with Charlotte as a brunette, a clean-shaven Faraday, Sawyer in a fat suit or 65-year-old Sun, we'd have to reconsider those pages, but all other promotional photos are fine. --- Balk Of Fametalk 00:24, May 11, 2010 (UTC)

2X12-Libby

No As LOD mentioned the practice is to use promo pics if avaialble walt is the exception because he aged so much having a promo pic of him when he was 10 would be incorrect. Not only do promo pics keep order but they look much better than most grainy screencaps. -- B1G CZYGS  Talk  Contribs  00:28, May 11, 2010 (UTC)
  • No As per above. Official promotional pictures are always better than other options. --LeoChris 00:35, May 11, 2010 (UTC)
  • Do we have any official promotional pictures of Libby? Let's use one.--- Balk Of Fametalk 02:02, May 11, 2010 (UTC)
Do you really think that the picture is not of Libby? If you do i can assure you it is of libby, it was released pre season 2 by ABC for LOST. I thought you meant it didnt look like her but if you actually think its just a random pic of Cinthya it is of Libby. -- B1G CZYGS  Talk  Contribs  02:34, May 11, 2010 (UTC)

I think the current picture is fine.  Robert K S   tell me  03:02, May 11, 2010 (UTC)

  • Personally I think these promo shots look so fake, I like the more naturalistic look offered by Balk - actually his suggestion is really representative of Libby, not the greatest grab but a really appealing shot nonetheless.    Charles Kane     talk  contribs   email   03:19, May 11, 2010 (UTC)
  • The second one you put up, CK, is the only other promo shot of her from that year, and that was the only season she was a main character. Yeah, they're terrible terrible pictures. I don't know what the hell the promo department was thinking that year. Sure, make them look really pretty, but at least have them wear something believable and tone down the makeup some. —   lion of dharma    talk    email   03:40, May 11, 2010 (UTC)
  • No - Current picture is fine. We use promo pics. They hardly ever look like they do in the show on these promo pics, with the exception of the off-Island characters at the start of Season 5. I see no reason to change it, it's offical ABC promotional material.--Baker1000 20:20, May 11, 2010 (UTC)
  • Discussion is dead. No viable alternatives offered. Current pic has had long acceptance. I'm removing the dispute.    Charles Kane     talk  contribs   email   23:42, May 15, 2010 (UTC)
  • Yes Wowsers, who put up that jungle promotional pic. That's a definite improvement. --- Balk Of Fametalk 12:37, May 16, 2010 (UTC)
  • Balk - onn my count the current picture has the support. I'have lost interst. If it is promo - there are only 2 - the current one and the other one I put here (on the left) - whatever - they are both excerable. Just lets get rid of the dispute banner. In.fact I'm going to do it now! Change the pic if you wish, you have my permission (joke joyce)    Charles Kane     talk  contribs   email   17:05, May 16, 2010 (UTC)
  • I think both of the promo pics are quite good, but only one of them shows Libby as how she actually might have dressed on the Island. She wouldn't have worn a dress like that in the jungle.  Robert K S   tell me  17:19, May 16, 2010 (UTC)
    • She wouldn't have? That's the EXACT dress she wore on the plane and was roaming around in until they integrated! Alexisfan07 January 23, 2011

Rename again?[]

The suggestion that we rename this article to Elizabeth "Libby" Smith should be removed. Libby is a common abreviation of Elizabeth not a character specific nickname. That is why we don't have Katherine "Kate" Austin or Walter "Walt" Lloyd. The only reason we do it with Sawyer and Hurley is that they are not common abbreviations of James and Hugo. Mhtm ghnd....talk 03:38, August 1, 2010 (UTC)

Agreed--removed.  Robert K S   tell me  08:19, August 2, 2010 (UTC)

Picture, Again[]

  • While I don't think there's anything wrong with the current picture, following the end of the series, some new pictures have been released. The precedent of Shannon's Ana's and Paulo's pictures being changed to some of these new shots makes it clear in my mind we should at least consider the new ones. Plus, these ones have the added bonus of actually depicting Libby in clothes she actually wore on the show (she had that dress on during 2x07's crash scenes) Heretheyare What do you guys think? Is any one of these better than the current one? I personally believe that they are all supperior to the current one--LeoChris 17:22, November 6, 2010 (UTC)
If we have to change it, then the first one is the one I'd choose. The other two are kind of awkward poses. But I still like the current one, I don't see any reason to change it.--Baker1000 19:39, November 6, 2010 (UTC)
I'd go with the first one, though I find it hard to describe exactly what in her expression makes her seem more like Libby than the current pic does. --- Balk Of Fametalk 20:35, November 6, 2010 (UTC)
I'd actually go with the third pic, however maybe just crop it so it's zoomed in better on the upper half of her body. Johnlanigan 05:06, November 17, 2010 (UTC)
The second one is the pose she strikes on the season 6 poster. But it would probably need to cropped. Illyrias Acolyte 21:08, February 9, 2011 (UTC)
Of these three I'd go with the first one, but the current one is fine too. Limitlessness 22:18, April 6, 2011 (UTC)
I see the discussion is for a long time quiet. I would choose number 1. --Station7 18:40, August 28, 2011 (UTC)

I quite like the first one, and since the majority of people here have said they like the first one, and nobody has objected to changing the picture, then I'm going to change the picture on the page. If anyone disagrees, they can bring it up here. Julietfan2626 Talk Blogs 19:20, August 28, 2011 (UTC)
