Speculation[]
Could Kate's friend "Beth" possibly be the same as the woman Christian Shepherd killed when he operated on her while drunk? http://en.lostpedia.com/wiki/Beth_%28hospital%29 The botched operation happened about two months before Christian's death. Kate was on the run so she likely wouldn't know about it, and this show has a habit of connecting characters through their back stories.
