|Station 3 Computer|
|Name||Station 3 Computer|
|Introduced In||Man of Science, Man of Faith|
|Last Seen In||Live Together, Die Alone|
|Owned By||The DHARMA Initiative|
|Found By||Desmond and the Flight 815 Survivors|
Is the computer located inside Station 3: The Swan. The "numbers" are required to be entered every 108 minutes.
According to the DHARMA Initiative orientation film inside The Swan Station, the station was set up so that it would contain 2 occupants for 540 day increments and that Station 3 was originally constructed as a laboratory where scientists could work to understand the unique electromagnetic fluctuations emanating from that specific sector of the island.
The film goes on to add that not long after the experiments began, there was an "incident", and since that time the following protocol had been observed:
- Every 108 minutes the button must be pushed. When the alarm sounds, one of the two occupants has 4 minutes in which to enter the code (4 8 15 16 23 42) into the computer. The code is to be entered in a timely fashion. The occupants are not to use the computer for anything else other than the entering of the code, and that entering the code is the computer's only function, and that not entering the code could lead to another "incident".
Pushing the ButtonEdit
When Desmond was on his solo race around the world, his boat crashed into the reef of the island, where he was met by Kelvin who ran out of the jungle and brought him inside of the station. When they arrived, the alarm was already sounding and Kelvin entered the code and pushed the button to make it stop. When Desmond inquired as to why he had done that Kelvin replied by saying that he was "just saving the world". (Orientation)
Desmond began pushing the button alongside Kelvin for 3 years, and eventually, Kelvin was killed after he and Desmond engaged in a physical confrontation, leaving Desmond alone in the hatch to push the button alone. (Live Together, Die Alone)
After Jack, Locke and Kate, blew the top hatch off using dynamite they had retrieved from the Black Rock, they one by one entered the station. Kate was locked inside the pantry, and Desmond interrogated Locke, gathering information about the crash and if his group was "sick". When the alarm sounded, Desmond forced Locke over to the computer where he ordered him to sit, enter the code, and push the button. (Adrift)
After Jack entered the station, the three were met with a standoff where Locke was found at gunpoint by Desmond, and Jack demanding to know where Kate was. The situation was resolved by Kate striking Desmond in the back with a shotgun, however, Desmond's gun fired sending a bullet into the computer.
Kate was sent to retrieve Sayid who had knowledge of fixing a computer. Desmond fled the station after a failed attempt at repairing the computer, and headed into the jungle, being pursued by Jack. When Sayid successful repaired the computer, Locke attempted to remember the code, but incorrectly typed in the numbers as: 4 8 15 16 23 32, however, Jack arrived in time to inform him that it was "42". Locke then forced Jack into a situation where he had to push the button, which he did. (Orientation)
While Locke and Eko were busy watching the newly spliced piece of footage for the orientation film, Michael was busy checking out the hardware associated with the computer. Michael heard a ding sound and was greeted with a message (What Kate Did):
- Computer: Hello?
- Michael: Hello?
- Computer: Who is this?
- Michael: This is Michael. Who is this?
- Computer: Dad?
- Computer: Dad?
- Michael: Are you OK?
- Computer: Yes. Are you alone?
- Michael: Yes.
- Computer: Can't talk long. They're coming back soon.
- Michael: Where are you?
- Computer: You need to com-
Michael would then speak with "Walt" a third time, and would receive directions on exactly where to go (Three Minutes):
- Michael: You okay?
- Computer: ok, no time, come soon?
- Michael: I'm ready. Coming NOW. You said north -- north WHERE?
- Computer: when they take me out. there's huge rocks with a big HOLE in the middle by the beach. you'll know when you see.
- Michael: It's gonna be okay. I'm coming.
It would later be revealed that it was in fact not Walt who was typing to Michael, but rather "The Others". Ben revealed to Juliet that he's good at finding what people are emotionally attached to, and exploiting it. Which he did with Michael, to lure him to be captured, to in turn coerce Jack, Sawyer, Kate and Hurley into following him to be captured, and the end result being that Jack could successfully remove the tumor situated on Ben's spine. (Exposé)
The Swan's computer was ultimately destroyed when Locke picked up the computer and smashed it against the floor, prevented Desmond from pushing the button. Locke did this because he believed that the Pearl's Orientation film was telling the truth about the entire Swan project being a psychological experiment. (Live Together, Die Alone)
