Sonya was born in London, United Kingdom. She is the daughter of an English mother and an Argentine father, and was raised bilingual in Great Britain. She studied English Literature at Christ Church College, Oxford, where she received a first class degree.
She played Donna Barnes in The Mind of the Married Man TV series on HBO. She played Nicole Noone in The Librarian: Quest for the Spear with Noah Wyle, but did not reprise that role in The Librarian: Return to King Solomon's Mines. She also has a recurring role as Jane Parsons, head of the DNA Lab in CSI: NY.
She is a regular in the ten-part HBO series "Tell Me You Love Me", starring as Carolyn.
