Was the letter Sawyer wrote as a child to "Sawyer", the man who caused complications which led to the death of his parents.
James Ford was just 8 years old when his mother, Mary, had an affair with a con man named Tom Sawyer. After Frank managed to get his hands on Mary's husband's money, he fled, completing his con. Mr. Ford discovered this and murdered his wife, and then committed suicide in his son's room, right before his son's eyes.
James decided to write a letter, outlining exactly how he felt, knowing one day he'd find "Sawyer" and present him with the letter:
- Dear Mr. Sawyer, you don't know who I am but I know who you are and I know what you done. You had sex with my mother and then you stole my dad's money all away. So he got angry and he killed my mother and then he killed himself, too. All I know is your name. But one of these days I'm going to find you and I'm going to give you this letter so you'll remember what you done to me. You killed my parents Mr. Sawyer.
With the help of Locke, James discovered the identity of "Sawyer". Locke had bound and gagged Anthony Cooper, inside the brig of the Black Rock, and locked Sawyer inside with Anthony. Through conversation, Sawyer discovered that Anthony was a con man, and was in fact responsible for the death of his parents. Sawyer presented Anthony with the letter and demanded he read it. While doing so, Anthony tore up the letter, which resulted in Sawyer grabbing some nearby metal chains and strangling Anthony to death.
