Life Before Flight 815Edit
Sam Thomas, and his girlfriend, Sonya, were together for eight years, prior to the crash of Oceanic Flight 815. Sam worked as an IT Technician, while Sonya worked as a flight attendant, and was aboard the flight when it crashed. It is revealed that Sam was going to propose to Sonya on the eighth anniversary of their meeting.
After the CrashEdit
On September 22, 2004 Oceanic Flight 815 crashed on an island in the South Pacific, however, unbeknownst to the rest of the world. Search attempts were unsuccessful, and Oceanic Airlines deemed the search a failure and prepared to name the passengers as deceased. Sam, however, did not give up in his efforts to find the truth about the flight's disappearance, and has appeared publicly on GMN World News stating that despite the cost, he will search for the facts.
Sam's room contains several items that aid him in his search. His walls are draped with maps and other helpful information that serve to his advantage. Sam also possesses a notebook computer which he uses to converse with several contacts eager to help in the search. Sam's desk also hold a pocketbook containing a manifest of several of the survivors, including: Kate, Sawyer, Jack, Sayid, Jin, Sun, Hurley, Claire and Locke. The information is minimal, limited to their name, profession, and reason for travel.
After Sam had watched the newscast which aired his appearance, he received an e-mail from an unknown contact, possibly connected to the Maxwell Group, who states that they had previously known Sonya. Included with the message was a photograph of Sonya, which on closer inspection, included four messages embedded within: Sunda Trench, Christiane I, Black Rock and "Tell no one - Grave Consequences". Sam finds Sunda on a map located on his wall, and circles it.
Sam e-mails a friend named Tracey, about information pertaining to the Christiane I, and is informed that it is a salvage boat that is looking for a shipwreck. Upon reading this, Sam decides to fly to the Sunda Trench in order to gain information, and hitch a ride on the boat. Sam also attempted to seek employment with Austral Air, another airline operating in Australia. Another friend of Sam's, David Massingham, managed to book him on a connecting flight from Sydney to Darwin to Jakarta.
