The Hanso Foundation is the funding organization behind the Dharma Initiative. Its founder is Alvar Hanso. The foundation was first mentioned in the Orientation Film.

- The domain thehansofoundation.org was registered by ABC July 2005.
- In the March 28th, 2006 official Lost podcast the producers indicated that the site is "down for remodeling" and will be brought back in May 2006. They indicated that there will be direct tie-in with an episode, and that the site will help explore "real mythology" related to the show. The producers seem to imply that the site may be the beginning of a web-maze intended to keep fans interested over the summer of 2006.

- http://www.bigspaceship1.com - The spaceship site has a morse code title and a cryptic message that both change from time to time. Nothing on it has any real meaning, and is basically just there to mess with our heads.
- http://www.smartdust.com - currently a mirror of http://www.bigspaceship1.com. Smartdust refers to computer-controlled nanoparticles. Its signifigance to the show is not yet known, however in The 23rd Psalm the black smoke Mr. Eko encounters does indeed seem to be controlled by a mechanical artificial intelligence.
- http://www.catoms.com - currently a mirror of http://www.bigspaceship1.com. 'Catoms' are individual particles of smartdust. Its signifigance to the show is not yet known.

- http://oceanicworldair.com/ This is new as of 11/15/05 - Hanso Department of Defense letter hidden in airline schedule. (Click Search, then Schedule and note the three underlined items, click each.) It is believed to be a fan site.
- http://www.oceanic-air.com appears to be an official site. If you search for Oceanic Flight 815, and click "Pre-Flight Boarding", the word Ethan Rom will appear. Rearrange the letters into the boxes to spell out "Other Man", and you will be greated with a semi-screamer, that leads into a scene of Walt's kidnapping.
- http://www.oceanic-air.com main page if pasted into an editor i.e. Word, a message from 'Sally' becomes apparent along with a picture of a pencil sketch of an injured person and the statue of liberty.
- The Hanso [1] Life-Extension Project contains a link to a memorandum regarding orangutan Joop originally “harvested by British explorers in the early 1900’s” also referred to as experimental subject 626. The release explains this information came from an “experimental station in Zanzibar” and names the source of this information (possibly a scientist) only as Einarsson. Also if you click on the space after last sentence a box will appear, type in 'Copenhagen', then submit and another letter will appear.
- The Hanso Foundation site contains a page with information about Alvar Hanso [2] On that page if you click on the photo of Alvar Hanso it changes to an animated GIF of what looks like a computer screen with a conversation between two people - similar to Michael's experience at the end of Episode 2x09 "What Kate Did" - after the animation ends the screen changes to a new letter that is a follow up to the letter you reach as described above.

The flash begins with a similar screen to the computer used in the computer found in the hatch, and is similar to the conversation that Michael has in episode "What Kate Did".

It's not really clear who was behind this website, but it has NO basis in the shows reality or give any valid clues. Update: Site is owned by Splendid Magazine, per Sam Spade search.
The audio, image or animation and morse code change every once and a while but no set pattern on how often it changes has been determined.
