Theories
- Since he is one-armed he have some relationship to Ray Mullen, who owned a farm that Kate stumbled on to in Tabula Rasa. Ray Mullen is also one-armed, and incidentally it's the right, not left arm, "I'm a lefty."
- May be related to Sam Toomey's wife, who showed her missing leg to Hurley
- Marvin Candle and Ray Mullen lost their arms in the Incident
- Perhaps they (and possibly more, perhaps the DeGroots?) were standing either side of something which exploded, hence the Chernobyl-style concrete and thick doors
- The loss of their arms could have been the result of the Sickness, the incident being when they were not properly treated
- Interestingly, Dharma is an anagram for "had arm".
- He might also be related to Montand. Rosseau says Montand lost his arm at Black Rock.
