Mathias and another man named Henrik were stationed together at what appeared to be an Antarctic monitoring station. The two men spoke Portuguese and played chess together inside the station. While working one day, the computer inside the station bore the reading "Electromagnetic Anomaly Detected".
As he panicked on what to do, he was informed by Henrik to "shut up and call". He picked up the phone and made a call to Penny Widmore and informed her that he thinks he "found it".
