[edit] Summary
Karen DeGroot was a doctoral Candidate from the University of Michigan, who founded the DHARMA Initiative in 1970. Influenced by B.F. Skinner, Karen and her partner Gerald set out to create a large scale communal research compound where scientists and free thinkers would be able to pursue scientific pursuits. When a Danish Industrialist named Alvar Hanso provided them with the adequate funds required, their dream was brought to life.
