Before the crash

  • Michael's biological son
  • Born 8/24/94
  • Raised by his mother Susan, and adoptive father Brian Porter
  • Has lived in New York, Amsterdam, Rome, Sydney, and perhaps elsewhere
  • Has the ability to make things happen if he concentrates hard enough. [1] (from the cast bios, under Michael Dawson)
  • Was reading a book on rare birds, and got angry, then a bird matching one in his book flew into the glass door and died. It seems likely that this was because of his 'ability'.
  • After his mother dies, Brian asks Michael to take him back
  • Has a dog, Vincent, which was originally Brian's, but was given to him after his mother died

On the island

  • Hurley owes him $83,000 in backgammon debt
  • Got a stuffed polar bear as a little kid from Michael, saw one in the Spanish comic book and was attacked by one while alone in the jungle.
  • Burned the first raft mirroring his father's burning of his comic. He later confessed to Locke and to his father.
  • When Locke asked him why he burned the raft, he replied, "I like it here."
  • Helped to build the second raft.
  • Suddenly changed his behavior while touching Locke and told him "Don't open it ! Don't open it, Mr. Locke". This happened few hours after Jack, Sayid and Locke are arguing about opening The Hatch or not.
  • Seemed to really want to leave the island when talking with his father:
Michael : "We don't have to go ..." - Walt: "Yes, we do."
  • Was kidnapped by The Others, led by Mr. Friendly.
  • Appeared to Shannon in the jungle after being kidnapped, completely wet and saying "Push the button. Don't push the button. Bad" in reverse. (This has been confirmed by Damon Lindelof, in an October 2005 TV Guide interview. See http://lost-forum.com/showpost.php?p=813679&postcount=300 for reference.)
  • His picture was under the word "MISSING" on the milk carton Hurley is holding during his dream.
  • The second time he appeared to Shannon, he says "They are coming and they're close," also in reverse. Sayid also saw him this time.
  • Possibly communicated with Michael through the computer in The Hatch.
  • Said by Zeke to still be safe, along with Zack and Emma. Zeke also claimed he was "special."
  • 'Henry Gale' claimed that The Others would never give Walt back.
  • Has been forced to take some sort of tests for the Others.
  • When Michael is taken to the Others' camp, Ms. Klugh let him talk with Walt for three minutes. In their conversation, Walt told him the Others were pretending, and begged Michael not to leave him.

Theories

  • He was kidnapped because he was meant to be on the section of the "Accelerated Remote Viewing Training". His ability couldn't improve at "The Swan Section" so he had to leave. Flight 815 was just his convenient ride to the area. His appearence to Shannon will be one of his accomplishments at the training facility
  • It may not be that he killed the bird, so much as summoned it. In "real life" birds often die flying into plate glass windows. This may hold for the polar bears on the island as well. He is likely not responsible for them being there, but was able to call out to them because they were there
  • In addition to possible animal empathy, Walt has exhibited the ability to manipulate probabilities. This is exhibited by the fact that when playing Backgammon he always gets the exact rolls he needs. This may be further exhibited during an argument with Michael when Vincent is still missing. Michael says, "I'm going to get your dog back as soon as it stops raining." Two seconds later it stops raining.
  • When Ms. Klugh is questioning Michael, she asks him, "You say he was half-way around the world, but... did you see him?" She could be hinting that Walt can project his image across great distances (something akin to astral projection). This could mean that the Others know that Walt appeared to Shannon and Sayid.
  • Locke was teaching Walt how to throw a knife. Locke told him to visualize the knife hitting the target, he did so and hit the bullseye.
  • Walt crashed the plane.
  • Walt is the "Heir Apparent" (or maybe Aaron is - or both) - Heir Apparent to the main Other that Henry Gale referred to - and is perhaps inside the heavily guarded hatch in the Other's camp. This person may be dying and somehow the Losties were brought to the island in hopes of finding this Heir Apparent to take the place of the main person when he died.
  • Walt isn't actually using a computer to talk with Michael. Like in the movie Sphere, the computer is tapping into Walt's mind somehow.

EXTERNAL LINKS

  • On the Oceanic homepage [2] the words 'THE BOY' hidden in the pull down menus suggest that Walt is in fact not a red herring at all as others claim, but is very important. Be careful what you discard and undervalue and why.
    • This is because of a hidden message: If you go to the Oceanic page, hit 'track flight' on the toolbar and track flight by number, you'll find that the second flight down (flight 572) holds the message 'Giveus THE BOY'.
      • Also on the Oceanic homepage [3]; Click on from ---> airport code and select "THE" and then select the To airport code "BOY" and click the "find" button you get either a card with a drawing from Michael to Walt on it, or Claire's boarding pass.

On the Oceanic page after you choose contact us a hidden text message appears both behind the right hand graphic and within the text on top of the graphic stating that all flights have been cancelled. The hidden text reads "If anyone should find this message, please get word I'm alive and stranded on an island somewhere in the South Pacific. Please send help soon. Things are bad. And they're getting worse..." and the text within the graphic reads "I survived a horrific plane crash and am stranded on an island somewhere Northeast of Australia and Southwest of Hawaii. In the event that I am never found, please forward word of my fate to my parents." It is signed, "Sally" (this exists above the actual text and is hard to reveal by mousing over the text but if you look at the source code it becomes apparent). These can only be accessed after you click on "contact us". The words behind the graphic are barely peeking out onthe right hand side, but you can highlight with your mouse and copy to another document to read. The words within the graphic are visible but garbled due to the fact they are superimposed over the text. If you highlight and copy to a new document you can read.
