George is one of the many survivors of the crash of Oceanic Flight 815.

George was a Real Estate broker who was aboard Oceanic Flight 815 after trying to talk some sense into his daughter who had dropped out of college to live in Sydney with her boyfriend.

After the crash of Oceanic Flight 815, George found himself in the company of a woman named Faith Harrington. The two quickly bonded, however, George would often make slight jokes about Faith being a brain and how she was a "tree-hugger" and the like. The two sorted the luggage during the first day, and later that night gathered with their fellow survivors to hear the frightening noises coming from the Monster inside the jungle.
George seems to be deathly afraid of snakes, and has shown this on several occasions. His biggest encounter with a snake was when he was face-to-face with one, and was eventually saved by Faith who aided him at the last second.
