Chapter 1 of the Find 815 Alternate Reality Game began on December 28th, 2007, and was completed on January 4th, 2008.

The official description given on Find815.com is "For Sam Thomas, times have never been so tough. His partner, Sonya, was a flight attendant aboard missing Oceanic Flight 815. Sam, a talented IT technician for Oceanic Airlines, is determined to find out what happened. But Oceanic would rather be flying again. They have abandoned the official search for Flight 815. Sam is distraught, afraid he will never have answers. But then he receives a strange email...".

December 31, 2007Edit

Video One - Oceanic HackEdit

While visiting FlyOceanicAir.com, the audience is given their first glimpse of Sam Thomas, who directs those watching to Find815.com. Sam outlines the premise, and his mission to find the facts pertaining to Oceanic Airlines Flight 815.

Video Two - GMN World NewsEdit

The video opens on a newswoman reporting that Oceanic Airlines has ceased the search for Flight 815 deeming it a failure and that the passengers would be declared deceased. Sam himself appears on the news report condemning the actions, and vows that he will discover the truth about what had happened to the flight, and to his partner, Sonya.

Sam is seen with an engagement ring, and then receives an email from an unknown source, which includes a photograph of Sonya, however, embedded inside the message are hidden clues which the player much help Sam find.

Activity One - Sonya's PictureEdit

Sam's laptop is show, and the player is to compare the photo of Sonya that Sam possesses with the photograph he was just sent to look for an discrepancies between the images. It is required that the zoom function is utilized in order to see the messages as they are fairly small in comparison to the rest of the picture. There are three discrepancies total which include a forehead scar, a mole above Sonya's lip, and her eye colour. The locations and the messages are as follows:

black rock - Over the mole
Christiane I - Inside her right eye
sunda trench - Inside her left eye
tell no one - grave consequences - On the forehead scar

Video Three - The ReplyEdit

Sam writes down the four clues found embedded inside the photograph. He proceeds to reply to the e-mail with the message "Who are you?", however, the reply return is from "Fatal error no such recipient", and message text is garbled code.

Activity Two - The Maxwell GroupEdit

Sam's laptop is shown, along with the garbled e-mail that he just received. Players must scroll through the message to find any clues which will help in the discovery of the sender. Scrolling to the bottom of the message, reveals a segment containing the text "the-maxwell-group.com" Upon seeing this Sam inquires:

The Maxwell Group. They must have sent the message. I wonder who they are.

Video Four - Sunda TrenchEdit

Taking his new information, Sam proceeds to his map located on the wall and finds the Sunda Trench located somewhere near Indonesia and circles it.

January 1, 2008Edit

E-mail - Tracey and DavidEdit

Sam's inbox is updated with e-mails from David Massingham and Tracey R. Sam requests information from Tracey regarding the meaning of Christiane I which was embedded in the photograph of Sonya. Tracey responded by saying that the ship was set to leave on an expedition in a few days but she couldn't find out where to, as the details are confidential.

Sam also received correspondence from David, as he had requested getting on a flight to Jakarta, David responded positively by managing to get him onto a flight to Jakarta, however, through a means that may warrant disciplinary action had he been caught.

A new website is shown in the web browser which reveals information about the Sunda Trench.

January 2, 2008Edit

Video Five - VisionsEdit

Sam awakens during the night, and heads to a room in his house, in which a door is rattling, upon closing it, Sam catches a brief reflection of Sonya in the window, wearing her Oceanic Airlines attire.

Clue Hunt - Clues from LOSTEdit

Season CluesEdit

In this activity, players must scan the dark room in order to find clues from the first three seasons of LOST. There are three clues from these seasons, which are as follows:

Season 1 - A Drive Shaft - Live from Jakarta CD, which is located at the bottom right hand of the screen.
Season 2 - A Pearl Necklace which is located on the left hand table.
Season 3 - A Rocking Chair which is located on the right side of the screen. (A reference to Jacob's Rocking chair)

After finding these three clues, a clue for Season 4 is revealed by clicking on the far right table lamp. This activity leads the player to the ABC Website, or The Australian Yahoo! 7 website to complete an exercise.

Activity Four - Sam's BagEdit

In this mini-game, Sam prepares to leave for the Sunda Trench and players are required to place Sam's objects strategically into his bag, similar to that of a jigsaw puzzle, ensuring that all of the items fit within the alloted space. The game tests the players spatial knowledge, and once completed the clue "MATTHEW" is given on ABC.com, and "ABADDON" is given when played on the Yahoo! 7 site.

Activity Five - Oceanic HotlineEdit

After completing the previous mini-game, and returning to the "Clues from LOST" exercise, the user can now enter either "MATTHEW" or "ABADDON" to reveal the Season 4 clue. Doing so presents a message saying "Oceanic Hotline 888-548-0034". Calling the number present a message which is as follows:

Thank you for calling the Oceanic Airlines Flight 815 Hotline. Information is updated as the investigation proceeds. Investigations are thorough and as such may take a period of time to complete. At this time we do not have any additional information regarding crashed Flight 815. If you are a family member or relative of a passenger on Oceanic Flight 815, we are sorry for your loss. Detailed information is given during the daily family briefings. This briefing updates families on the progress of the investigation and allows for questions to be asked of the medical examiner or coroner and other parties connected to this investigation. Please contact your accident coordinator or call back later for more information.

Messages - Sam's MotherEdit

Sam receives a phone message from his mother, in which she voices her concerns for his well-being and the possibility of him losing his job if he keeps carrying on.

Sam, its mum. I just saw you on the telly. What's going on? You're going to lose your job if you keep carrying on like that. I know you probably wouldn't care at the moment, but you look like you hadn't slept in days. I'm worried about your health Sam, physical and--well, otherwise. Can you call me?

January 3, 2008Edit

E-Mail - Oceanic and Austral AirEdit

Sam received a new e-mail in his inbox from Sean Dowling from Oceanic Airlines' Employee Relations, informing him that his employment has been terminated due to the fact that despite repeated verbal and written warnings, Sam continued to make derogatory comments about Oceanic Airlines in public.

Sam had also sent an e-mail to Austral Air, an airline operating within Australia, expressing the possibility of employment with the company.

January 4, 2008Edit

Video Diary OneEdit

A video diary made by Sam is produced in which he discusses his plans to fly to Jakarta, and "hitch" a ride on the Christiane I. Sam also makes mention that in two months, it would be the eight anniversary of when Sam and Sonya had met, and that he was going to propose.

The video contains several glitches and static, which cut Sam off at times. Notably, when Sam mentions the Maxwell Group, the image of a man appears on screen.
