- Sawyer dubbed him "Zeke".
- May be the leader of The Others, but refers to someone else who will be displeased with Ethan for failing to collect a list during his time undercover.
- In Exodus Part 2 he was the one who kidnapped Walt (with help of some unidentified people).
- Then we met him again in The Hunting Party where he warned Jack, Sawyer, and Locke not to cross "the line" meaning that they were not to explore the northern part of the island. He said that doing so would change the situation from a "misunderstanding" to "something else".
- He asks Alex to bring out Kate. Alex may be the girl for whom Danielle Rousseau is looking (i.e. the daughter she lost 16 years ago).
- Holds Kate hostage with what appears to be a WWI or WWII vintage German Luger pistol.
- Says that Walt and the others he took including Emma and Zack are still alive
- Refers to Walt as "special"
- Whilst talking to Jack quotes Alvar Hanso: "Oooo, 50 days. That's what, almost 2 whole months, huh? Tell me, you go over a man's house for the first time, do you take off your shoes? Do you put your feet up on his coffee table? Do you walk in the kitchen, eat food that doesn't belong to you? Open the door to rooms you got no business opening? You know, somebody a whole lot smarter than anybody here once said Since the dawn of our species man's been blessed with curiosity. You know the other one about curiosity don't you, Jack?"
- When Jack accuses him of sending Ethan Rom to infiltrate the survivor's camp and thus learning their names, he enigmatically replies, "Well that's quite the theory."
- What seems to be his sock cap and beard are found by Kate in the Dharma Initiative station where Claire was taken by Ethan. They show that he is wearing a disguise.
- Scolded Ethan for not making a list before bringing Claire to the medical hatch. After hearing Ethan's explanation, he replies "You know what he's going to think."
Theories
- The nickname Zeke could be a writer included reference to the biblical character Ezekiel.
- The nickname Zeke could be because of his stereotypical hillbilly appearance and demeanour.
- The nickname Zeke could be may also be a reference to a muppet character with wild hair and a shabby beard.
- Fans have speculated that he is actually Gerald DeGroot, one of the founders of the Dharma Initiative, even though some say that the writers have debunked that idea.
- It is possible Sawyer had previously met Zeke, which would explain why he knew his supposed name
- The nickname Zeke could be a reference to the Wizard of Oz where Zeke was the person in Kansas who played the Cowardly Lion in Oz.
- When he warns the survivors to keep of from certain parts of the island, it is highly possible it is because one of the dharma stations lies there. Maybe the HQ.
- The link between the Others and the Dharma Initiative is confirmed when we see Zeke working in one of the Dharma Stations.
- The hint about Zeke having something common with an arrested development character is most likely the fake beard.
- Possibly involved in the Dharma project
- Possibly crashed on the island, like flight 815, Rosseau's science crew or Desmond's racing boat
- Was part of the Flight 815 survivors and can be seen wandering the beach in episode 1.
- There is a character in Walt's comic called Maj. Gen. Ezekial Gunther.
