Is the suggestion that the Swan is connected to the Internet? I am sure the DHARMA initiative would not want to have their computers connected to the outside world - what if a hacker managed to break in, or if someone managed to get messages out? Let's hope DHARMA aren't using sendmail. Perhaps if the Swan is part of a network, then it is some other LAN/WAN.

Or perhaps the message came from some sort of buoy that monitors magnetic activity, the place the Polish technicians were at was just a place that received data from many different buoys. Like they do to monitor sea temperatures and stuff (I'm basing this idea on 'The Day After Tomorrow'. The screen output could easily be garbage for effect. --Rayne 12:08, 26 May 2006 (PDT)

Guys, 10.x.x.x internet addresses are the eqivilent of phone numbers starting with "555-" in movies. (See RFC1918). If the Lost writers used *actual* addresses, the poor owners of the IPs would likely be deluged with connection attempts from Lost fans. I'd suggest that the IP addresses revealed on the Listening Station terminal aren't really noteable. They appear to have *some* internet connectivity, but the addresses involved don't matter.
