Dominic Monaghan was born on December 8, 1976 in Berlin, Germany. Best known for his role as "Merry" in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Monaghan has had a successful career in British television. Before becoming an actor, Monaghan studied English Literature, Drama and Geography at Sixth Form College. When auditioning for Lost, Monaghan originally went in for the role of Sawyer, but impressed the producers so much that they re-wrote the character of Charlie Pace from a middle aged rock star who had faded from the limelight to a twenty-something guitarist looking to relive recent glory.

Monaghan has been apart of the main cast since the first episode. Since his character was killed off in the season 3 finale, he is presumed not to return for Season 4.

On the TV show, Charlie is the younger brother of Liam (Neil Hopkins). However, in real life, Dominic Monaghan is older than Neil Hopkins.
