BEFORE THE CRASH

  • Was tweaking on the seat 29C.
  • Was an altar boy as a child (he told this to Mr. Eko in The 23rd Psalm)
  • A devout Catholic
  • Bass player for UK band Drive Shaft; his older brother, Liam, was lead singer
  • Became addicted to heroin during his time in Drive Shaft
  • Had a girlfriend named Lucy whom he originally befriended just for money but later fell in love with.
  • Went to Australia. Unsuccessfully tried to convince his brother to re-form Drive Shaft
  • Stayed at the same hotel as Hurley
  • Has a tattoo on his left shoulder that reads "Living is Easy with Eyes Closed" and identifies him as a Beatles fan. The line is from "Strawberry Fields" The next line is "Misunderstanding all you see" (and don't forget the refrain "Nothing is real and nothing to get hungabout.")
  • Told by his mother that he's "special"
  • Father was a butcher who apparently opposed his musical inclinations
  • Before the official breakup of Drive Shaft; was writing a song by the name of 'Saved'

ON THE ISLAND

  • Writes F A T E on his bandaged fingers, later on replaces it with L A T E.
  • Locke helped him kick his heroin addiction
  • Rescued Jack from a Cave-In while in withdrawal
  • Befriended Claire, convincing her to move to The Caves
  • Doesn't believe Hurley when he confides that he's a multi-millionaire lottery winner.
  • Almost killed when they were kidnapped by Ethan Rom; Jack saved him with CPR.
  • Either he or an Other leaves a trail of at least three of the letters (L A T) from the bandages on his fingers when he is kidnapped
  • When found hanged the E that remains on his finger is more angular than the more even one we see him write in a flashback at the start of the episode
  • Shoots and kills Ethan Rom in revenge for Claire's kidnapping and his own near-murder
  • Accompanies Sayid in pursuit of Rousseau after she kidnaps Aaron. Charlie is injured from a booby trap, and Sayid burns gunpowder into the wound in order to cauterize it.
  • Is forced by Mr. Eko to bring him to the Drug Smugglers Plane
  • Witnesses Mr. Eko's confrontation with the Black Smoke
  • Tempted by the heroin found on the wrecked Drug Smugglers Plane. Hides several of the Virgin Mary Statues before they are found and confiscated by Locke
  • Nicknamed Claire's baby, Aaron, "Turniphead"
  • A fan of The Kinks
  • Has never heard of Geronimo Jackson
  • Has the letters F-A-T-E on the fingers of his left hand in a (dream/hallucination) where he is trying to rescue Aaron from inside his piano which is on the shore of the island
  • Is the fourth member of the group to hear the whispering while trying to rescue Aaron (see Sayid, Sawyer, Shannon)
  • Has a (dream/hallucination) where he rescues Aaron from floating away in basket and, upon reaching shore, sees his mother and Claire as angels telling him the baby is in danger and he must save it. Also sees Hurley in this vision, dressed as an apostle or something similar. A white dove flies away, as out of a painting. Eko mentions this later in the episode when he tells Claire that when John the Baptist baptised Jesus, the clouds opened up and a white dove flew down from heaven
  • Is told by Eko that maybe his dreams mean something, and that Aaron should be baptized because he is in danger (of damnation, as per Catholic doctrine)
  • Starts a fire near camp to create a distraction so he can steal Aaron to baptize him in the ocean
  • Punched repeatedly by Locke after returning Aaron to Claire
  • Takes part in Sawyer's "Long Con"
  • Attacks Sun and makes it look like the Others did it, so Sawyer can get control of the guns
  • Asks Sawyer not to reveal to anybody that he was Sun's attacker
  • Wanted to make Locke look ridiculous
  • Turned down Sawyer's offer of one of the Virgin Mary Statues
  • At the end of One of Them is apparently approached by Sayid in an attempt to recruit him for some unknown purpose.
  • Is building something, perhaps a house, with Sayid.
  • Went in the jungle with Ana-Lucia and Sayid to follow the map Henry Gale drew, supposedly to his balloon.
  • Was carrying a gun but wasn't shown asking Sawyer for it. Possibly a gift for services rendered?
  • Told Ana-Lucia that she shouldn't be carrying a gun since the last time she fired one, she ended up murdering someone. Incidentally, the same thing applies to him.

THEORIES

  • Charlie actually died when hanged by Ethan and was resurrected by the Island.
  • Charlie's behaviour during the episode Fire + Water is the beginning of The Sickness that Danielle Rousseau mentioned in Season 1 to Sayid, seeing things that were not there.
  • When he wears the hood of his jacket up, Charlie is up to no good, or bad things happen around him. In the DVD commentary for The Moth, Dominic Monaghan stated that it's a security blanket for Charlie. He wears it when he's feeling 'for lack of a better word "lost"'.
  • The conversation at the end of One of Them was Sayid trying to recruit Charlie for something, maybe his own army.
  • May have read Hurley's message for the bottle taken on the raft, as Sawyer does later.
