He and his companion came across Benjamin Linus in the Sahara Desert wearing a thick winter coat, and no visible footprints around him. He ordered his companion to search him, and they discovered a telescopic baton hidden in his pocket. Ben struck his companion with the baton, and used his gun to murder him, throwing him off of his horse. (The Shape of Things to Come)
