Joanna was one of the many survivors of the crash of Oceanic Flight 815.

Joanna was scuba diving off the barrier reef and got an ear infection, so she was grounded for two days. Joanna was aboard Oceanic Flight 815 after she bumped her flight.

Joanna drowned on Day 6, after Boone's attempts at rescuing her failed, Jack dove into the water to rescue her, however; he found Boone first, returned to the shore with him, and dove back in assuming he had enough time to rescue her. Her body was never recovered.
