On Wednesday 22 September 2004 at 2:55pm, Oceanic Airlines flight 815 took off from Kingsford Smith International Airport in Sydney, Australia, bound for Los Angeles. The flight was due to take 13 hours, but 6 hours into the flight, the plane lost radio and radar contact. It flew for a further 2 hours before breaking up into 3 pieces and crashing onto a "deserted" island in the Pacific Ocean.

This is the timeline of the survivors from that fateful flight.

September

  • 22 September 2004 (day 1)
1x01 Pilot (1)
Oceanic Airlines flight 815, en route from Sydney to Los Angeles, breaks into three pieces and crashes onto an island in the South Pacific. There are 50 survivors from the middle and cockpit sections. A Monster uproots trees and makes noises near the crash site.
2x07 The Other 48 Days
The tail section of Oceanic Flight 815 crashes on another part of the island. Minutes after the crash, Goodwin rushes out of the jungle dressed as a crash-survivor. He asks to get help for Bernard, whose seat landed in a tree. They take 3 people from the tail section survivors and try to take Eko but he kills two of them. As a result, Eko stops speaking.

1x01 Pilot (1)
Jack, Kate and Charlie find the cockpit section in the jungle. The pilot survived. The pilot reveals that the plane was off course and is then killed by the Monster.
1x02 Pilot (2)
Sayid, Kate, Sawyer, Charlie, Shannon and Boone go into the jungle to find a high spot from which to send a distress call. Sawyer shoots a polar bear. They hear Rousseau's distress call and Sayid calculates it has been playing for 16 years and 5 months.

1x03 Tabula Rasa
Jack euthanizes the Marshal.

Locke finds Vincent, and has Michael take him back to Walt. At night, boars go inside the fuselage.

1x04 Walkabout
Locke encounters the Monster while hunting boar. A memorial service for the dead is held as the fuselage is burnt.

1x05 White Rabbit
Barbara Joanna Miller drowns. Jack finds the caves and fresh water.

1x06 House of the Rising Sun
Jack and Kate find two old corpses in the caves that have been there 40 to 50 years. Some of the survivors move from the beach to the caves.

Jack is trapped when one of the caves collapses. Charlie helps him escape. Sayid is attacked when he is trying to triangulate the source of the distress call.


October

Sawyer is tortured by Sayid and is wounded in a scuffle. Sayid leaves the camp in shame.

They attack the tail section's camp and drag off 9 more people. Ana-Lucia kills one and finds a U.S. Army knife and a list describing the nine who were taken.

Sayid is captured by Danielle Rousseau.

First Island Open Golf Tournament. Sayid escapes from Rousseau and hears whispers in the jungle.

After 3 days of walking, the remaining tail-section survivors make a camp in the jungle.

Claire and Charlie are taken by Ethan. Sayid returns to the caves just as Hurley tells everyone that one of the survivors was not on the plane. The tide comes further up the beach than normal and starts washing the fuselage into the ocean. Charlie is left for dead by Ethan but revived by Jack. Boone and Locke find the hatch in the jungle.
Ana-Lucia starts work on a prison pit.

Kate and Sawyer discover two bodies from the plane and a Halliburton case in a pool by a waterfall. The beach survivors start to move their camp further up the coast.

2x07 The Other 48 Days
The tail section survivors find the entrance to the Arrow bunker. A radio is found inside. Ana-Lucia and Goodwin go off to try the radio. Ana-Lucia knows Goodwin is one of Them and tries to get information from him. There is a struggle and Goodwin is impaled on a spear.

Scott is found murdered on the beach. Ethan is lured into an ambush and is captured. Charlie then shoots him four times, killing him.

Sawyer's tent is raided by a boar. He hears whispers in the jungle.

Charlie and Hurley bury Ethan. Kate offers to help Sawyer track down his boar in exchange for access to his stash. Sawyer returns the gun to Jack, inadvertently learning that he met Jack's father in a Sydney bar.

Walt sets fire to the raft.

Sawyer brings Jin to the beach for a confrontation with Michael. To save her husband from an unwarranted beating, Sun speaks English in front of everyone. Jin leaves Sun and moves to the beach.

Hurley finds Rousseau to ask about the numbers. She gives him a battery for the raft. Claire's birthday. Locke gives her a cradle he made for the baby.

Locke and Boone try to break the hatch window with a crude trebuchet. Locke starts to loose the feelings in his legs.

Sayid makes a pair of glasses for Sawyer and then takes Shannon out on a date. Locke and Boone find a drug smuggler's plane from Nigeria. Locke finds a gun on a dead smuggler. Boone climbs up to the plane and finds drugs inside models of the Madonna. Boone also finds a radio, and when he says he is a survivor of flight 815, a reply comes from other survivors. Boone is critically injured when the plane falls from its precarious position. The hatch window lights up as Locke sobs over it.
1x20 Do No Harm
Boone Carlyle dies. Claire gives birth to a healthy baby boy.
2x07 The Other 48 Days
Bernard tries the radio and picks up Boone's transmission. Ana-Lucia thinks it is Them trying to find the tail section survivors and turns the radio off. After 40 days Eko speaks again.

1x21 The Greater Good
Locke re-appears at Boone's funeral. Jack accuses him of lying and then attacks him. Locke takes Sayid to the plane. Sayid interrogates Locke and confiscates the Nigerian smuggler's gun from him. Shannon steals a gun from the gun case and tries to kill Locke but Sayid stops her. Sayid demands that Locke take him to the hatch.

1x22 Born to Run
Sayid takes Jack to the hatch. Dr Arzt warns Michael that it is nearly the Monsoon season and the raft has to be launched as soon as possible. Sawyer forces Kate to reveal that she was the fugitive so he can keep his spot on the raft.

1x23 Exodus (1)
Rousseau walks into the beach camp and warns the survivors that the Others are coming. Hurley and Rousseau are taken to the hatch. Locke suggests that they get dynamite to blow open the hatch. Jack organizes an expedition to the Black Rock to get the dynamite. Walt gives Shannon Vincent to take care of her. She promises to look after him until he gets back. The raft is launched.
1x23 Exodus (2)
Arzt dies at the Black Rock. Rousseau kidnaps Claire's son. Charlie and Sayid set out to bring him back. Locke is nearly pulled underground by the Monster. Locke, Jack, Kate and Hurley use the dynamite to blow open the hatch. The raft is attacked and destroyed by the Others. Walt is kidnapped.

2x01 Man of Science, Man of Faith
Locke, Kate and Jack separately enter the hatch to find Desmond in the Swan bunker. They find that every 108 minutes he has to enter a series of numbers. They are Hurley's winning lottery numbers.
2x02 Adrift
Sawyer, Michael and Jin wash up on the far side of the island, and are promptly captured by the tail-section survivors.
2x03 Orientation
After accidentally damaging the Swan bunker's computer, Desmond runs off into the jungle.
Ana-Lucia is dumped into the pit prison to find out who Sawyer, Michael and Jin are.

2x04 Everybody Hates Hugo
Michael, Sawyer and Jin are let out by the tail survivors and are taken to the Arrow bunker.
Hurley takes Rose to the Swan bunker where they catalogue the food. The fuselage survivors feast on the Swan bunker food.

2x05 ...And Found
Ana-Lucia decides to move the remaining tail-section survivors across the island to meet the fuselage survivors. Michael races off into the jungle looking for the people who took his son. Jin and Eko go after him and see a group of people pass by their hiding spot. Jin and Eko convince Michael to come back with them.
2x06 Abandoned
Shannon sees another vision of Walt, this time in her tent. Eko, Michael and Jin catch up with Ana-Lucia
  • 9 November 2004 (day 49)
Shannon sets out to look for Walt. Sayid follows her. Sawyer's infected bullet wound causes him to pass out. Michael and Eko build a stretcher. Cindy vanishes without a trace when the tail survivors struggle to get Sawyer up a steep hill. Shannon is accidentally shot dead by Ana-Lucia.
2x08 Collision
Eko carries Sawyer to the Swan bunker. Michael finds Sun and is taken to Jack in the bunker. Michael, Jin and the tail survivors arrive on the beach and reunite with the fuselage survivors. Jack and Ana-Lucia meet up in the jungle.

2x09 What Kate Did
Kate sees a black horse in the jungle. Shannon is buried. Eko shows Locke the Bible containing the missing film splice. Sawyer feels good enough to walk with Kate's assistance. They both see the black horse outside. Locke and Eko watch the missing piece of film. Michael receives a message on the computer from someone claiming to be Walt.

2x10 The 23rd Psalm
Eko takes Charlie's Virgin Mary statue and smashes it in front of Claire, revealing the heroin. He then forces Charlie into the jungle to look for the plane. Michael secretly talks on the computer with the person claiming to be Walt. Eko has an experience with the Monster that Charlie witnesses. They find the plane that has Eko's brother's corpse in it. Eko turns the plane into a funeral pyre. Claire kicks Charlie out of her life.

2x11 - The Hunting Party
Michael locks Jack and Locke in the gun vault and goes to look for Walt. Jack, Locke, Sawyer, and secretly Kate pursue him. The Others surround them at night and Mr Friendly warns them to turn back, using Kate as a hostage. Reluctantly they drop their guns and head back with Kate.

Back on the beach, Jack asks Ana-Lucia how long she thinks it would take to train an army.

2x12 - Fire + Water
Charlie asks Claire to go back to the way things were. Sawyer notes that Jack and Ana-Lucia have made at least three trips into the jungle. At night, Charlie has a nightmare and finds that he has sleepwalked and taken Aaron. Claire slaps him.

Charlie tries to get Locke to put in a good word for him with Claire. Charlie lies to him about not having any more statues. Eko and Charlie talk about his dreams. Charlie thinks they mean that Aaron needs to be baptised. Locke follows Charlie to his stash and confiscates the drugs. At night, Charlie starts a fire in the woods near the beach, then attempts to steal Aaron so he can be baptised.

Charlie admits to Jack that he started the fire. Claire goes to see Eko about baptising her and Aaron. Locke puts the heroin into the gun vault.

2x13 The Long Con
Locke and Jack ensure that all the weapons are kept safe in the armoury. Sawyer tells Kate about the army Jack and Ana Lucia are forming. Hurley gives Sayid the radio from the Tailies. Sun is in her garden when she is dragged off into the jungle with a hood over her head. She is found unconscious in the jungle. Ana-Lucia thinks the Others are back and wants to go after them but Locke argues for caution. Jack opens the armoury and discovers it is empty. Sawyer got there ahead of him and warned Locke that Jack was coming for the guns. Jack finds Locke and demands to be taken to the new hiding place. Sawyer emerges with a gun over his shoulder. He played Locke and Jack against each other in a con to win control of the guns. Later Sayid and Hurley listen to music through the new radio.

2x14 One of Them
Rousseau finds Sayid and takes him to a clearing where a man is hanging in a net from a tree. Rousseau has taken a prisoner who she thinks is one of the Others. Sayid takes him back to the Hatch to interrogate him. The man claims to have crashed on the island while flying across the Pacific in a balloon along with his wife. She died 2 weeks ago. In the interrogation, Sayid asks him about his wife's burial, but because he is hazy about the details, Sayid is convinced that he is one of the Others. Jack tries to persuade Locke to let him stop the interrogation but in doing so they are late pressing the button and strange hieroglyphics appear on the clock face.

2x15 Maternity Leave
Aaron develops a rash and fever that Claire decids is the "illness" spoken of by Rousseau. Against Jack's advice and prompted by flashbacks of her captivity by the Others she decides to seek out Rousseau. She also seeks out Libby for help in remembering what happened to her. With Kate she finds Rousseau and the three of them retrace her steps and find a the Medical Station where she was held. Entering it they find it deserted and stripped. In a locker Kate finds a false beard and theatrical glue along with clothes worn by Zeke.
2x16 The Whole Truth
Sun finds out that she's pregnant.
Ana, Charlie and Sayid set out to investigate Henry Gale's claims

2x17 Lockdown
The Swan station undergoes a bizarre and unexplained lockdown as the blast doors come down, shutting Locke and Henry Gale inside and cutting them off from the computer room. When the Countdown Timer runs out the lights shut off and ultraviolet black light comes on revealing a heavily annotated map on one of the doors.
Sayid, Charlie and Sayid find the baloon and grave Gale told them about. They also dig up the grave revealing the body of the real Henry Gale.
Jack wins the medical supplies back from Sawyer in a poker game.
Jack and Kate find a parachute and large net containing a pallet of supplies on their way between the beach and Swan Station.
Charlie, Sayid and Ana meet Jack and Kate and join them to confront the faux Henry Gale.

2x18 Dave
Hurley gets rid off his stash only to find more food that was parachuted from the sky.
Hurley sees Dave an imaginary friend.
Locke gets a pair of crutches and Sayid and Ana interrogate Henry Gale.
Libby and Hurley kiss.
After telling Locke that he didn't put the numbers in the fake Henry Gale stops talking, eating or drinking.
